Adding your card to Google Pay takes a few minutes and turns your phone into a contactless card you can tap at checkout. It’s especially useful with a virtual card, which has no plastic version. Once your Cashi card is ready, you can add it to Google Pay and tap to pay straight from your digital dollar balance. This guide shows how to set it up and what to do if something goes wrong.
What Google Pay Does
Google Pay is Google’s way to pay with your phone. In many places, in-store payments happen through the Google Wallet app. You add your card once, then hold your phone near a contactless terminal to pay, just as you would tap a card.
When you pay this way, the shop doesn’t see your full card number. Google Pay gives your card a virtual account number and shares that number with the shop instead of your real card number, which adds a layer of security to a virtual card.
What You Need
- An Android phone with NFC (near-field communication), the chip that makes tap-to-pay work. Most recent Android phones have it.
- The Google Wallet app, installed and up to date.
- A screen lock, such as a PIN, pattern or fingerprint. Google Pay won’t work without one.
- Your card details: card number, expiry date and CVV (card verification value). In Cashi, you’ll find them on your card in the app.
- A country where Google Wallet supports tap to pay.
How to Add Your Card to Google Pay (Step by Step)
- Open Google Wallet. Sign in with your Google account if asked.
- Tap “Add to Wallet”. Then choose “Payment card”.
- Choose “New credit or debit card”. The Cashi card is a debit card, so this is the right option.
- Enter your card details. Type them in, or copy them from the card screen in your app.
- Accept the issuer’s terms. Read them and tap to accept.
- Verify the card. You’ll usually get a code by text message or email. Enter it to finish.
- Set it as your default card if you want it to be used every time you tap.
Your card is now ready to tap. If you have more than one card in Google Wallet, check which one is the default before you pay.
How to Pay in Store
Unlock your phone and hold the back of it near the contactless symbol on the terminal until you see a checkmark or feel a vibration. If you’re asked for a PIN, enter your phone’s screen lock PIN on your phone, not a card PIN on the terminal. Your app shows the payment right away, and a pending amount may change slightly when it settles, for example with a tip.

If Your Card Won’t Add or Won’t Pay
- Update the apps. Install the latest versions of Google Wallet and your card app.
- Check NFC is on. Look in your phone’s connection settings.
- Check the screen lock. Google Pay needs one before it can add a card.
- Check the details. One wrong digit in the card number or CVV will stop verification.
- Wait for the code. If it doesn’t arrive, request a new one before trying again.
- Try another terminal. A few older terminals don’t take contactless payments.
Using an iPhone? Apple Pay isn’t available for the Cashi card yet, but you can still pay online with your card details. Read what a stablecoin card is to learn how the card works.
Tap to Pay With Your Cashi Card
Your Cashi card can be added to Google Pay for in-store payments as soon as your identity check is approved and your card is active. Pay from USDT, USDC, BTC (Bitcoin), ETH (Ethereum), SOL (Solana), or XRP, and set the order your balances are used once, in Settings > Asset spending order. US dollar payments have no FX (foreign exchange) conversion fee, and other currencies carry a 1% FX conversion fee. The Help Center explains where you can use your card, and you can read how spending and cash out work in our main guide.
