To pay bills with crypto, start with how your biller wants to be paid. A utility portal that takes cards, a landlord who wants a bank transfer and a credit card repayment are three different jobs. Cashi lets you keep your balance in digital dollars and pay straight from it with a Visa card, or cash out to your own account when a bill needs a bank transfer. This guide shows which route fits each bill and what each one costs.
Can You Pay Bills With Crypto?
Yes. Paying bills from a digital dollar balance means using that balance to settle a bill, either with a card or by cashing out to your bank first. Very few billers accept digital dollars directly, so in practice you’ll use one of those two routes.
Before you pay, check the biller’s own payment page. A payment that’s been sent isn’t paid until the biller posts it to your account, so leave time before the due date.
3 Ways to Pay Bills With Crypto (Card, Cash Out, Bill Pay Services)
| Method | Works when | Main check |
|---|---|---|
| Card | The biller accepts Visa | Conversion fee, surcharges, your balance |
| Cash out to local currency | The biller needs a bank payment and cash out is available to you | Cash-out fee, receiving-bank charges, timing |
| Bill pay service | It covers your country and your biller | Delivery date and fees |
A card is the most direct route: the biller receives a normal card payment, and you pay straight from your balance. When a biller only takes bank transfers, cash out to your own account first. Bill pay services usually cover only certain countries and billers. If you’re new to paying with a card funded by digital dollars, our guide to spending crypto with a debit card explains how it works.
How to Pay a Credit Card Bill With Crypto (Step by Step)
To pay a credit card bill from a digital dollar balance, you usually need to cash out first, because most card issuers only accept repayments from a bank account. The app shows whether cash out is available to you.
- Check the statement. Note the amount, the due date and the payment reference.
- Tap Send Cash in the Cashi app. Choose your own bank account or mobile wallet, and check the fee before you confirm.
- Pay the card from your bank. Use the issuer’s usual repayment method, a few days before the due date.
- Use the correct reference. A missing reference can delay the payment.
- Confirm the balance has cleared. Check your card account after a day or two.
Never send money to someone who offers to clear your bill for you. That’s a common scam.
Utilities, Rent and Phone Bills
Utilities
Check whether the biller takes card payments online or only bank transfers. If it takes Visa, pay with your card; if not, cash out where cash out is available to you, then pay as usual. When you switch payment methods, confirm the next payment date so you don’t pay twice.
Rent
Most landlords want a bank transfer. Where cash out is available to you, cash out to your own account and pay as usual. If your landlord or rental platform accepts Visa, you can pay with your card instead, but rent payments don’t earn cashback.
Phone and Internet Bills
Phone and internet providers usually take cards online. Keep enough balance for automatic renewals so a payment doesn’t fail.
Fees and Tax Implications
Add up every cost of reaching the biller: the card conversion fee, the cash-out fee and any charge from the receiving bank. A $100 bill with $3 of costs along the way needs $103 at the start.
- Card payments: with Cashi, payments in US dollars have no FX (foreign exchange) conversion fee, and other currencies carry a 1% FX conversion fee.
- Cash out: the fee depends on the currency, the payment method and the amount, and the app shows it before you confirm.
- Receiving bank: some banks charge for incoming payments.
Most bills don’t earn cashback. The 3% subscription rate covers only Amazon Prime, Google One, Canva and Uber One. Utility, phone and internet providers aren’t among the eligible categories, and rent, insurance and government payments are excluded. Keep the bill receipt and your conversion records too, since spending or converting digital assets can be taxable where you live.

Pay Your Bills With Cashi
If your biller takes Visa, pay with your Cashi virtual card online or with Google Pay, straight from your USDT (Tether), USDC (USD Coin), BTC (Bitcoin), ETH (Ethereum), SOL (Solana) or XRP balance. Activating the card costs $5, which you get back straight away as Spending Credit. There’s no monthly fee and 0% fee on US dollar payments, with a 1% conversion fee in other currencies. When a bill needs a bank transfer, you can cash out to your own bank account or mobile wallet, and the app shows whether cash out is available to you and the fee before you confirm. The Help Center explains how cash out works, and our guide to moving money from your balance to your bank walks through it.
